Hello, lovely! My name is Caley. I am a 20-something transplanted from the Midwest to Southern California with my sweet Mr. whose company never grows old.  I adore the outdoors, autumn, gardens, the quiet retreat of my family’s farm, chatting over a cup of black coffee, and getting lost in a good book.

Food happens to be another love of mine. I love the exploration of each and every ingredient and the magic they make when all joining together. The process of making things by hand, whether simple and quick or complex and time-consuming, is the most satisfying of accomplishments. I savor the way my senses are fulfilled by the smells and sounds of a finished product; the sweet smell of garlic as it changes form in hot olive oil, the singing and crackling of a finished loaf of bread, and the feel of a soft, plump pancake early in the morning are completely gratifying.

But all of this, as satisfying as it may be, turns up empty if there is nobody to share it with. The real magic of food, I think, is the way it brings individuals together. It leads us to settle down, look each other in the eye and exchange experiences with one another. And suddenly, we are not all as alone as we thought. Our most basic needs are met in the presence of those we enjoy. And that is something worth savoring.

That being said, I hope you enjoy a simple slice of my little life. This blog is crafted around the pleasures of homemade food and sharing each discovery with you. I promise to share life the simple way I see it, including all the little challenges, mistakes and pleasures.
